Justice for My Sister Collective recognizes and condemns the systematic racism, injustice, and inequality that permeate all facets of society due to the prevalence of white supremacy, hetero-normative patriarchy, class oppression, abelism, and imperialism. We commit to centering our community members' voices who have been harmed by systemic exclusion. All aspects of our work and organizational operations strive to implement and amplify the movement for racial justice and gender inclusion.

JFMS recognizes the TV and film industry's role in perpetuating gender-based violence and the prevalence of white supremacy in mainstream narratives. To course-correct the marginalization of low-income communities of color both behind and in front of the camera, we provide tools to emerging filmmakers to deconstruct outdated tropes and change the narrative. It is possible to create stories and images that nourish and cultivate self-love, community-building, inclusion, and self-determination of all people and living beings. Some of the actions we take to center, serve, and uplift communities of color include:

  • Ensure our programs identify and eradicate discrimination and barriers to entry that disproportionately exclude communities of color from telling our own stories.

  • Evaluate our programs’ impact so as to create a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable culture, both within our organization and in the TV and film industry at large.

  • Maintain a record of the demographics of those we serve, including race, income level, age, ethnicity, exposure to gender-based violence, and the systems that have impacted them such as foster care, incarceration, and citizenship status.

  • Partner with organizations/artists that align with our values on racial equity and successfully lead efforts in diversity, equity, and inclusion.

  • Address colorism, privilege, and power dynamics within our organization and continuously self-evaluate. Study critical race theory and queer feminist theory with our staff, students, and community to increase the critical analysis skills of all and center the leadership of those most marginalized.
