Position Overview
The Coordinating Teaching Artist will play a critical role in delivering high-quality programming, ensuring that participants receive trauma-informed and culturally responsive experiences aligned with the organization’s mission. This role coordinates program logistics, manages communications with participants and Teaching Artists, and contributes to curriculum development and instructional excellence. The Coordinating Teaching Artist will facilitate workshops and provide support at various sites, including parks, schools, partner organizations, and institutions serving incarcerated individuals. They will also contribute to alumni engagement, program design, and impact evaluation to ensure organizational consistency and success. While some administrative responsibilities may be performed remotely, this position is predominantly in-person and requires regular travel throughout LA County.

Key Responsibilities
Support the design, implementation, and evaluation of programming.
Maintain, update, and improve curriculum, session plans, and teaching materials.
Ensure programming aligns with trauma-informed and healing-centered facilitation principles.
Assist with the onboarding and training of Teaching Artists.
Review and update Programs SOPs.
Monitor classroom dynamics, and overall facilitation quality.
Coordinate schedules, supplies, meals, equipment, transportation, and location logistics for instructional sessions and events.
Collect and archive all required deliverables, including surveys, attendance logs, appearance releases, lesson plans, photography, and footage.
Ensure all lessons are aligned with JFMS program goals, safety protocols, and program compliance requirements.
Adhere to JFMS safety standards and workplace guidelines, and promptly escalate issues of concern to leadership.
Contribute to annual and quarterly planning for youth programs.
Pitch new workshops or programmatic initiatives, incorporating feedback to improve delivery.
Assist in designing new programs aligned with the organization’s strategic goals, including innovative projects and expansions.
Program Delivery & Curriculum Oversight (30%)
Track attendance, collect evaluations, and maintain accurate participant records.
Support participant retention by creating a welcoming, inclusive, and responsive
environment.
Serve as a point of contact for participants and families for program updates and
engagement.
Support workforce placement initiatives, including resume reviews and job board
updates.
Facilitate or support community-building activities and family engagement events.
Develop and maintain relationships with alumni to foster ongoing engagement and
support.
Incorporate alumni stories and feedback into program development and organizational
storytelling.
Participant Engagement & Support (25%)
Co-lead classes and workshops at multiple sites each week for systems-impacted youth intergenerational groups, sector leaders, and community members.
Provide trauma-informed instruction in various settings, including small groups (5–10 youth), standard classrooms (20–50), and large school assemblies (50–100).
Share responsibility for class design and instruction with a Co-Teaching Artist.
Provide one-on-one skill support to youth.
Evaluate and adapt lesson plans to ensure alignment with program goals and participant needs, using the experiential learning cycle.
Identify socio-emotional learning objectives for different classes and age ranges.
Complete 24 hours of training in trauma-informed facilitation, crisis management, and classroom behavioral management techniques. A pathway to the Lead Teaching Artist role is open upon reaching 60 hours of training.
Ensure clarity between administrative and instructional hour reporting in Paylocity.
Instructional Leadership (20%)
Support coordination for school sites, community partners, and program locations.
Coordinate field trips, guest speakers, and special events.
Assist with scheduling workshops, events, and Teaching Artist assignments across sites.
Maintain strong relationships with external partners, mentors, and stakeholders.
Support communications related to youth programs, including newsletters, program
updates, or social media content (in collaboration with the Communications team).
Work with Development staff to ensure grant-related program compliance and
documentation.
Program Coordination & External Partnerships (15%)
Track participant engagement, attendance, and learning outcomes.
Assist in compiling program reports, outcome measures, and feedback summaries for internal and external reporting.
Collaborate with the Programs and Grants teams to evaluate program impact and report on metrics of success.
Use data to inform ongoing program improvements and curriculum updates
Program Evaluation & Reporting (10%)
REquired Qualifications and expectations
Qualifications:
Specialized filmmaking skills such as camerawork. Video editing skills are a plus.
2+ years of experience in program coordination, education, or nonprofit work.
Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Comfortable with technology, including Google Workspace and virtual meeting platforms.
Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends for program needs.
Experience in arts education, workforce development, or film/TV-related programs.
Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
Familiarity with trauma-informed practices and equity frameworks.
Expectations:
Full-time, hybrid role with regular in-person meetings, trainings, retreats, board meetings, site visits, and industry/sector related events.
Ability to travel locally to site visits, community events, and partnership meetings.
Availability for occasional evenings and weekends based on program needs.
Job Compensation & Payment schedule
Base Rate: $26 - 29/hour base rate.
Instructional Time: $30 - 35/hour for instructional time, commensurate with experience.
Benefits: This role is eligible for medical and making personal contributions to a 403b retirement plan.
Payment Schedule: Payroll is every two weeks. 40 hours/week.
Sick, holiday, and vacation time.
This position has an introductory period of 90 days, which will include a performance review.
